In the unfortunate event your dog or a stray dog is hit by a car it is important to firstly ensure that it is safe from passing traffic. This means that you should move it away from the road or stop traffic without endangering yourself.
Consult a vet immediately since visible wounds are usually not the only problem in such accidents.
Remember that the dog will be in a state of shock and acute pain. Handle the animal with extra care in order to avoid causing other injuries from e.g. abrupt movements.
Keep the dog warm and calm to help it overcome the shock.
If possible consult your vet before moving the dog.
